Lexus Reaches 2 Million in Global Sales of Electrified Vehicles

On May 18th, 2021, Lexus was happy to announce the monumental news that our brand has surpassed 2 million in global sales of electrified vehicles, doing so at the end of April. After 16 years of providing electrified vehicles to the world, these Lexus vehicles have helped to cumulatively reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 9 million tons. That’s about the same combined CO2 output of 300,000 passenger cars, every year over the past 15 years. While we’re extremely proud of this accomplishment, 2021, 2022 and beyond are primed to lead into even better and more diversified electrified options as Lexus continues to evolve this new frontier of automotive.

Lexus Electric Vehicle Philosophy

Ever since Lexus released the RX400h in 2005, our brand has staked our claim as being pioneers of auto electrification in the luxury segment. Lexus is committed to maintaining the same core values and features of every vehicle we produce. With our electric lineup, you’ll still experience smooth driving, superior performance, design and tech, but with a sensitivity to the environment and emissions. Over the years, the Lexus electrified vehicle lineup has only broadened, with seven models available here in Canada. 33% of all Lexus models sold across the world in 2020 were of the electrified variety, a huge representation of these ever-growing models. The Lexus philosophy is centred around “right time, right product, right place,” always adapting and staying versatile to the needs of the customer and the market, now and moving forward.

Lexus Electrified Vision

The Lexus Electrified vision was announced in 2019 as the roadmap for where Lexus aims to push electric vehicle performance and tech-forward, mixing the environmentally conscious with the simple fun of driving a vehicle. Lexus endeavours to have 20 new/improved models by 2025, with over 10 of those being battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles. Lexus is doing this all under the expectation that soon electrified model sales will surpass internal combustion engine vehicle sales. One of the ultimate goals Lexus has positioned is to achieve carbon neutrality across a vehicle’s entire lifecycle by 2050. The future looks bright for automotive, and for those who want to take part in the new wave of electrified vehicles will know that Lexus is there, leading the way.

The Future of Lexus Electric Vehicles & Technology

Immediate introductions into the electrified market include Lexus’ first mass-market PHEV in 2021, followed by a new BEV in 2022. Constantly studying, developing and implementing new electrification tech, our brand is continually striving to change the driving experience and in each new vehicle. DIRECT4 (4WD torque distribution tech) and steer-by-wire system match control with enhanced vehicle reflexes to create a driving experience not seen before. This is just an example of the many techs that Lexus engineers and designers are working on to push the automotive industry further. One piece of a greater goal in creating a sustainable society, but still with vehicles that are incredibly fun to drive and always satisfying the customer’s needs!
