Lexus Tops J.D. Power’s 2025 Vehicle Dependability Study for Third Consecutive Year

In an automotive world where reliability is more critical than ever, Lexus continues to set the gold standard. For the third straight year, Lexus has ranked #1 in the J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, proving once again why it remains the go-to brand for drivers seeking long-term peace of mind.

Lexus: The Benchmark for Dependability

J.D. Power’s study, which measures problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) over the first three years of ownership, revealed that Lexus scored just 140 PP100—far better than the industry average of 202 PP100. This result underscores Lexus’ commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and cutting-edge engineering.

Among the top performers in the Lexus lineup, the GX 460 took the crown as the most dependable midsize premium SUV, with the Lexus RX also receiving high marks.

Industry Challenges and Rising Vehicle Issues

While Lexus continues to lead, the study highlights a concerning trend—vehicle problems have reached their highest level since 2009. Compared to last year, the industry saw a 6% increase in issues, primarily due to software-related defects affecting mass-market brands.

“While the increase in problems this year may be a thorn in the side of automakers and owners, it’s important to remember that today’s three-year-old vehicles were built during a time when the industry was grappling with major disruptions,” said Jason Norton, director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power.

Supply chain struggles, labor shortages, and record-high vehicle prices during the pandemic era all contributed to the current rise in dependability concerns.

What This Means for Car Buyers

For consumers, dependability remains a key factor when choosing a vehicle. Lexus’ continued dominance in this study makes it a compelling option for those looking for reliability and lower long-term maintenance costs. With advanced engineering, high-quality materials, and an unwavering focus on durability, Lexus once again proves that luxury doesn’t just mean comfort—it means peace of mind.

As the automotive landscape evolves, Lexus’ leadership in dependability reinforces its reputation as a brand that stands the test of time. If long-term reliability is on your checklist, Lexus remains a top choice for 2025 and beyond.
