This 2024 Subaru Crosstrek enters its third generation with a cleaner look, a stiffer chassis, and more refinement baked in. While the top trims get more bells and horsepower, the entry-level Convenience trim with the EyeSight package remains the sweet spot for buyers wanting real-world value, genuine AWD capability, and class-leading safety—all without overspending.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, the base 2.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-four carries over, making 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired exclusively with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and Subaru’s symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive—still the most confidence-inspiring in the segment when roads get sloppy.
The powertrain remains more about persistence than punch. Expect a 0–100 km/h time around 9.5 seconds. But for urban duty and bad-weather backroads, the Crosstrek’s traction-first approach feels reassuringly unflappable. Fuel economy comes in at a thrifty 8.8 L/100 km city and 7.1 L/100 km highway—excellent numbers for an AWD crossover.
Ride and Handling
Ride quality has seen notable improvement thanks to Subaru's global platform tweaks. There’s added chassis rigidity and better sound insulation, and it shows. The Crosstrek remains composed over broken pavement, with a well-damped suspension that soaks up ruts without losing body control. Steering is light but predictable, with just enough feedback to make it feel less like a lifted hatch and more like a proper urban explorer.
Interior and Features
The 2024 interior refresh makes a stronger case for Subaru’s value proposition. The Convenience trim now includes dual 7.0-inch touchscreen displays (versus the larger 11.6-inch screen on higher trims), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and improved ergonomics. Cloth seats are supportive, and visibility is excellent thanks to Subaru’s tall glasshouse design.
The EyeSight package is standard on all CVT-equipped Crosstreks and includes adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. These features remain among the most effective in the business—no intrusive beeping or hyperactive corrections here.
Rear-seat legroom is decent for the class, and cargo space comes in at 564 L behind the seats, expanding to 1,549 L with them folded—respectable, though slightly behind the likes of the Honda HR-V or Kia Seltos.
Design and Build
Visually, the 2024 Crosstrek sharpens its game with slimmer LED lighting, a more sculpted grille, and cladding that manages to look more rugged than tacked-on. The Convenience trim rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and has manually adjustable fabric seats, heated mirrors, and LED steering-responsive headlights—practical features that punch above the price point.
Verdict
The 2024 Crosstrek Convenience with EyeSight is what most buyers actually need. It may not wow on paper, but it delivers in the real world—especially in snowy or rural parts of Canada.
